Concrete patio installation, step by step
After the layout is staked, we strip topsoil, cut the sub-grade, and compact a crushed stone base. Forms are set with enough slope to drain — usually about an eighth of an inch per foot — and we handle any tie-in to steps, a stoop, or an existing slab.
Patios are typically poured four inches thick with wire mesh or fiber reinforcement, control joints placed in a pattern that looks intentional, and an expansion joint anywhere the slab meets the house or another structure. We finish the surface, cure it, and seal it once it is ready.

Concrete patio repair
Not every tired patio needs to go. We resurface sound slabs with an overlay, fill and seal cracks, lift settled sections, rebuild crumbling edges, and correct drainage that is dumping water at your foundation. When the slab is broken through or the base has failed, we will say so — resurfacing over a bad base only buys a year or two.
Why it lasts through Pennsylvania winters
Western PA runs through dozens of freeze-thaw cycles every winter. Water works into concrete, freezes, expands, and pops the surface apart — and road salt speeds the whole process up. Our patios are built for that reality, not for a mild climate.
That means air-entrained concrete so there is room inside the mix for ice to expand, a compacted stone base that drains instead of holding water, positive slope away from your foundation, and a sealer applied once the slab has cured. Keep it sealed on a regular schedule and use calcium-chloride-free de-icer the first winter, and you get decades of service out of it.
