How we build concrete steps
We dig footers below the frost line so winter cannot heave the unit, then set forms to consistent riser heights and tread depths. Uneven risers are the number one cause of falls on residential steps, so we lay out the run to the exact door height before anything gets poured.
Steps get rebar reinforcement tied into the footer, an expansion joint at the foundation, and a slight forward pitch on each tread so water runs off instead of sitting and freezing. Treads are finished with a broom texture, nosings are tooled, and we can set railing sleeves while the concrete is still wet so your handrail anchors into solid material.
